Robert Lee

Robert Davis Lee, 74, of Albemarle passed away early Monday morning, March 10, 2014 at Stanly Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Albemarle. Rev. Leslie Wray and Rev. Ross Tracy will officiate and interment will follow in Wightman United Methodist Church Cemetery, Polkton. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday evening at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.

Lee was born April 21, 1939 in Union County to the late Troy Herbert Lee Sr. and Mildred Turner Lee. He was a 1957 graduate of Norwood High School and a 1961 graduate of North Carolina State University with a major in Agricultural Economics.

Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. In 1970, he started his own accounting firm, Robert D. Lee, CPA. He was an active member of his community, having served as a member of the Stanly County Cattlemens Association and served as a Board of Director for Piedmont Farm Credit. He also served on the Board of Directors of First Union National Bank and along with his family, was former owners of Wadesboro Nursing Home. He was a respected supporter of the Stanly County Democratic Party.

Robert was an active member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Administrative Board and Church Treasurer. Robert loved being outside, especially working with his cattle in the Polkton Community of "Egg Town." He spent many happy hours visiting with his friends and volunteering at Fred Randall's store. He enjoyed traveling having visited many countries. Robert, along with his wife Jewell were great supporters of philanthropy, having established two scholarships; Robert D. and Jewell H. Lee Endowed Scholarship at Pfeiffer University and the Heritage Scholarship at Stanly Community College. He was a firm believer in encouraging young people to continue their education. Robert genuinely cared about his fellow man; he did not judge people by appearance or worldly worth. If you were lucky enough to know Robert, you know how he deeply loved mankind.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Troy Herbert Lee Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jewell Hatley Lee of the home; son, Charles Davis Lee of Albemarle and daughter, Betsy Lee Davis of La Boquita, Nicaragua; sisters, Nancy Lee Selby of Mint Hill and Elaine Lee Morton of Norwood and granddaughter, Megan Lee Rodgers and husband, Daniel of Albemarle.
