Cary Bland Diggs, 85, of Bessemer City, passed away on Aug. 13, 2014.

He was born April 25, 1929 in Lilesville, of Anson County, son of the late James E. and Estelle Knotts Diggs.

Cary attended First Baptist Church in Bessemer City for 40 years, where he served as a deacon. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to everyone who knew him. He retired from Duke Energy after a long career and he served in the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant of the U.S. Air force.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Willie and John Diggs; sisters, Sadie Mayse and Thelma Diggs.

He is survived by wife, Doris Gail Diggs; daughters, Pamela Diggs Trakas of Gastonia, Gina Diggs of Sugar Grove; grandchild, Hannah Driver and husband Barry of Gastonia; sister, Lena Barber of Lilesville; great-grandchild, Zachary Driver of Gastonia.

A funeral service was held at noon on Saturday at First Baptist Church of Bessemer City, 107 E. Washington Ave., Bessemer City, with the Rev. Tom Ravan and Rev. A.A. Bailey, officiating. The family received friends prior to the service at the church. Burial was at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force and Bessemer City American Legion Post 243 Honor Guard.
