Walter W. Hemberger, of Brick, is at rest after a year long struggle with cancer on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015. Mr. Hemberger is the former president of Templeton, Dobbrow and Vance and his career in finance also affiliated him with EF Hutton, The Iriving Trust Company and PNC Corporation. During his many years living in Tenafly, Mr. Hemberger served as the Honorable Mayor, a three-term Councilman, the Police and Fire Commissioner and on the Board for Planning and Zoning. A long term member of the Knickerbocker Country Club, Mr. Hemberger served on the Board of Trustees and was a paddle tennis player and an avid golfer. Born on April 24, 1932 in West New York, NJ to Ann Tucker and Charles Hemberger, Mr. Hemberger attended Memorial HS where he served as president of his class all four years, Captain of the Football Team and graduated with honors. Mr. Hemberger was awarded a scholarship to Princeton University and graduated from Gettysburg College with a BA in Economics. He was president of Phi Delta Theta, made All-State and All-Conference in football and is honored in the Gettysburg Hall of Athletic Honor for his accomplishments on the field. Mr. Hemberger was recognized in the Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. After joining the Air Force ROTC and receiving the Arthur J. Lippy Award for outstanding squadron commander, he served as 2nd Lt. Adj in the Air Force. Mr Hemberger was renowned for doing 100 push ups on his fingertips, with one or more of his children riding on his back and his campy, dinner-time magic tricks. He will be missed by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Evelyn Sahagian Hemberger and his children, Nancy Fleury (husband Brian), Lynn McCabe Tauro (husband Marc), Matt Hemberger (husband Brian Lewis), Susan Van Poznak (husband John), Christine Lovejoy (husband Marc) and Stephen Hemberger, as well as 14 grandchildren, a sister-in-law, 2 nieces and many grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles, his nephew, Charles, his niece, Tiffany Goumillian and his son-in-law, Mike McCabe.
