I only met Ruth once but I felt such a nice connection to her on that occasion. We talked shop (teaching) and I could tell she was a wonderful teacher, like her daughter. I am very grateful to have gotten the chance to know her at least a little bit. Sending love to her family.

my mom, Dr. Marianne Liedel met Ruth in 1978 when professors and students from german universities (Munich and Frankfurt) met their colleagues at NYU and she was seated next to Ruth. When Judy and Dan came to Munich two years later my parents got to know them and when I was in NY with my mom in 1990 we were invited to Judy and Dan's home - ever since that time we all have a wonderful friendship, the next generation (Evan Alex Sissi) included, and can share so lovely memories of time spent together in Bloomfield (especially the last Christmas dinner and many Thanksgiving Dinners with Ruth) in Baltimore (at Rebecca's and Evan's wedding) in Manhattan (at the Harvard Club) and many many more...
We are all very sad about this loss but so glad to have known Ruth and will keep her in our hearts

I met Ruth shortly after I met Judy in the early 70's. From the beginning she treated me as if I were one of the family. I will always remember our fascinating talks about teaching, testing, and books. She encouraged me to go into the fields of Reading and Special Education, and this advice helped me at a key time in my life. I will always remember her laugh, her generosity, and her wisdom. Rest in peace.
