Russell O. Wheeler

Russell O. Wheeler, 76, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, April 12, 2012. He was born in Lakewood, grew up in Fair Haven, and raised his family and owned a business in Toms River before retiring to Naples, FL and Oceanport, NJ. Russell was a graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven High School and Rutgers University, Class of 1958. He was president of Alpha Sigma Phi and played third base for the Rutgers baseball team. He had a 35-year career with the State Farm Insurance Company, beginning in claims and later becoming a State Farm Agent in Toms River. He was a lifelong Yankees fan, and loved the game of golf, from his teenage years as a caddie at Rumson Country Club to his home on the 15th tee. He was a devoted Husband, loving Father and proud Pop-Pop.
Russell is predeceased by his parents, L. Russell and Grace Owen Wheeler, and his brother, David. Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Barbara Ann Capello Wheeler; his three sons, Kevin and his wife Lisa of Scottsdale, AZ, Gary and his wife Cheryl of Wall, and Brian and his wife Lisa of Hoboken; his daughter, Lauren and her husband Gerald Leo of Little Silver; his six grandchildren, Michael, Allison, Kyle, Matthew, Kassidy and Nina-Marie; his two brothers, Alan of Morrisville, PA, and Mark and his wife Mary Pat of Canoga Park, CA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, on Monday, April 16 at 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's of Padua in Red Bank on Tuesday, April 17 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in Russell's memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY.

Russell, It seems like yesterday that we were enjoying wonderful times with you and Bobbi. You were a great guy and I enjoyed making you laugh. I use to look forward getting together especially on crab day each year. You were very quiet but enjoyed the crazy thing our crew would do. I know you family misses you and so do I .
