Robert "Sandy" Ewing Sanders AGE: 68 • Toms River Robert "Sandy" Ewing Sanders, 68, of Toms River, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Jacksonville, FL, he graduated from Del Ray HS in 1965 and from Brookdale in 1976. He lived in Laurence Harbor before moving to Toms River 36 years ago. Sandy served in the US Army for 2 years. He worked for Fragrance Resources in Keyport for 37 years, retiring as Production Manager. Sandy enjoyed gardening, hunting, complaining, fishing, & traveling. He loved spending time with family, going to Atlantic City with his wife and texting with his family. Sandy also was a dedicated Cub Scout leader. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Ruthie (Pierce) Sanders; his children Debra (Tim) Schwind, Meridith (Greg) Pooler and Robert "Bear" (Kelly L.) Sanders; his grandchildren Eric & Erin Cullen, Bailey & RJ Sanders, Noah, Jillian & Jacob Pooler, Abigail & Charlie Demeraski; and his loyal cat Maddie; his parents Robert and Catherine Sanders; brother Jim (Shirley) Sanders; his sister Adelaide (Tom) Monterastelli. He was predeceased by his sister Robin, his dog Lady, cat Misty and chicken, Nugget. The family would like to thank to Dr. Mahmood, Dr. Argawal, and Compassionate Care Hospice for all their help and support. Private services will be held to honor the life of Sandy. Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home in Toms River is in charge of the arrangements. Sarik, Rose E. - 87, Carteret  
Rose E. Sarik AGE: 87 • Carteret Rose E. (Gall) Sarik, 87, of Carteret, died on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at J.F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison. She was born in Carteret and was a life-long resident, where she was a parishioner of St. Elias Byzantine Catholic Church. Rose retired from Amerada Hess Corp. in Woodbridge as an executive secretary for twenty years. She was a member of the Carteret Community Seniors Evening Group and a member of the Woodbridge AARP Chapter 3689. She is predeceased by her husband, Paul Sarik who died in 2009; her two sisters, Irene Buti and Mary Gurski and her brother, Ernest Gall. Rose is survived by her two daughters, Paula Cotov and her husband, Thomas of East Brunswick and Rose Humphreys of Lancaster, California; her three grandchildren, Danica, Matthew and Jacob; and her best furry friend, Peppermint. The Funeral will be on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 9 AM at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue in Carteret. The Divine Liturgy will be at 9:30 AM at St. Elias Byzantine Catholic Church in Carteret, with Interment to follow at St. James Cemetery in Woodbridge. The visiting hours will be on Wednesday, from 5 PM to 8 PM.

Scholer, Elizabeth Olga - 82, Point Pleasant  
Elizabeth Olga Scholer AGE: 82 • Point Pleasant Elizabeth Olga Petersen Scholer, 82, of Point Pleasant, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015. Born in New York City to the late Alfred and Marguerite Petersen, she lived in Union, NJ, Meadville, PA, and resided in Point Pleasant since 1974. Mrs. Scholer was a registered nurse and graduate of Orange Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and of Boston University where she earned her B.S.N. She enjoyed photography, gardening, and animals, especially petting everyone's dog. Also she was a parishioner of Saint Mary's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Niels Erik Scholer, and sister, Nancy Nicolaysen. Surviving are her daughter, Anne-Marie Scholer of Winchester, MA and her beloved cat, Cleo. At 5:30 p.m., Thursday, June 4, a memorial service will be celebrated at Saint Mary's by-the-Sea Church, Bay & Atlantic Avenues, Point Pleasant Beach. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Inurnment will take place at the Parish Memorial Garden. Sherman, Jerry I. - 82, West Windsor  
Jerry I. Sherman AGE: 82 • West Windsor Jerry I. Sherman, 82, passed away Sunday May 31, 2015 at the University Medical Center of Princeton. A resident of North Brunswick for 37 years, he resided in West Windsor for the past 15 years. He worked at Jersey Paper in North Brunswick for 15 years, and later at Tomar Industries in Marlboro for 35 years. A graduate of Rutgers University, Newark, he played on the basketball team and was inducted into the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley, three daughters and sons-in-law, Helayne Sherman and Rick Hay, Cynthia and Jeff Gale, Michelle and Eric White, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services are 1 PM Tuesday, June 2 at Congregation Beth Chaim, 329 Village Road East, Princeton Junction. Interment is private. Funeral arrangements by Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing.

Rebecca Taylor Smith AGE: 20 • Bound Brook Rebecca Taylor Smith, 20, died on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at The Bristol-Meyers Squibb Children's Hospital at R.W.J.U.H. surrounded by those she loved. Born in New Brunswick, she was a was a resident of Bound Brook. She was a 2015 graduate of Bound Brook High School. In addition to going to school, Rebecca worked for the Dunkin Donuts in Bound Brook. She is survived by her mother, Deborah L. Smith; siblings, Nicholas Smith-Whipert, Joshua Smith, Jason Smith, Noah Smith and Holly Whipert; grandparents, Howard and Judith Sjursen. She will be forever missed. Born in New Brunswick, NJ she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen Grealis. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Edward Sokolowsky. Her brothers Jack, Vincent and Joseph Grealis and sisters, Katherine Urbanski, Mary Van Ness and Claire Albert also predeceased her. Addie is survived by her children, Raymond and Susan Sokolowsky of Cumming, GA, Christine and Jay Gregg of Woodstock, GA and Michael and Mary Sokolowsky of Gainesville, GA; sister, Bernadette Coffey of Helmetta, NJ; and grandchildren, Lauren Sokolowsky, Lindsay Sokolowsky and Victoria Gregg. A memorial mass will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Cumming, GA. Rita Spagnoli AGE: 83 • Sarasota, FL Rita Spagnoli, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. She was born on July 10, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA, the cherished only child of the late Salvatore and Josephine Lanzalone. Rita spent most of her life in Brielle and Wall, NJ. In her later years, she resided in Sarasota, FL. A graduate of Peirce School of Business Administration, she was multi-talented, with many skills and accomplishments. Her selfless service and generosity of spirit have left a rich legacy to her adoring family, as well as to the many friends and community members whose lives she graced with love, humility, and virtue of mind and heart. "She walks in beauty…A mind at peace with all below, a heart whose love is innocent." (Lord Byron) Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Rita is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Robert C. Spagnoli, MD, as well as her seven children and their spouses, Marie Spagnoli, MD and her husband Henry Maxwell MD, Regina Corbo and her husband Nicholas, Robert A. Spagnoli and his wife Gail, Veronica Studnicky and her husband Brian, Lisa Spagnoli, John Spagnoli, and Carla Hood and her husband Steven. Thomas Joseph Stoble AGE: 68 • Middletown, formerly of Fair Haven Thomas Joseph Stoble, 68, of Middletown, formerly of Fair Haven, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Riverview Medical Center. Tom was born in Long Branch to John and Viola (McCaffrey) Stoble. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969 aboard the USS John King DDG3. He was employed by Continental Insurance Co. in Neptune for over 26 years. While semi-retired he worked at Dorn's in Red Bank and then later at Contemporary Motors in Little Silver prior to retiring in 2009. Tom enjoyed Karate and M.M.A. sports, coaching many of his son's youth sports groups and boating on the Navesink. He was predeceased by his father John Joseph Stoble. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Adrienne J. (Girardin), his son, John Joseph and his wife Elizabeth of Middletown; his daughter, Jane Ellen of Middletown; his mother, Viola of Monroe Twp.; a brother, Michael and his wife Victoria of Monroe Twp.; beloved grandchildren, Olivia and Landon; nephew Robbie; nieces Lisa, Erin, and Morgan; a brother-in-law, Robert Girardin and wife Sharon of Wilson, NC and many close friends.
