Julie C. Vacchiano Toms River Julie C. Vacchiano, of Toms River, formerly of Wall, died suddenly at home on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. She was born and raised in Asbury Park and lived most of her life in Wall Township. Julie graduated from The College of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science in Education and from Monmouth University with a Masters of Science in Education. She was an educator in New Jersey for over 35 years. Julie loved to golf and bowl. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her nephew Ryan. Julie was predeceased by her father, James; her mother, Rose; brothers, Stephen and Frank, and her sister, Dolly. Surviving are her sister, Marie and her husband Richard Warren of Florida; her brother, Nicholas and his wife Carol Vacchiano of Wall; her sisters-in-law, Joan and Jewel. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2 at Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Hwy. 138, Wall. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Aug. 3 from the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass at Mt. Carmel Church in Asbury Park. Internment will be private.

Van Wagner, Jane Elizabeth - Red Bank  
Jane Elizabeth Van Wagner AGE: 84 • Red Bank Jane Elizabeth Van Wagner, entered into eternal life on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at home in Shadow Lake Village. She was born in Maryland on July 10, 1931 to William B. and Lena Will (Nelson) McKinney. Her primary focus in life was family. She enjoyed travelling to many places both near and far in their company. She also loved to play bridge with a wide circle of friends. All have been blessed by her presence in their lives. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, John Pells Van Wagner. They became sweethearts at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, where she cheered his football team on to glory. They were married following her graduation from Greenbriar College, Virginia. Survivors include three children, Diane, Nancy Gay and John Jr. (Alison); six grandchildren, Kathrinne Osheim (Erik), Joseph Duffy, Katie, Jenny and Matthew Hammond, and Robert Van Wagner; her brother, William B. McKinney (Jean), and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 31 at Embury United Methodist Church, 49 Church St., Little Silver. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in her name to the church.

VanEsselstine, Barbara Ann - Jupiter  
Barbara Ann Van Esselstine AGE: 74 • Jupiter, FL Barbara Ann Van Esselstine, 74, of Jupiter, FL, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2015. Barbara was born on Nov. 25, 1940 in Union, NJ. She lived in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ and moved to Marathon and Duck Key in the Florida Keys before moving to Jupiter in 2006 to be closer to her grandchildren. Barbara married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Donald Van Esselstine on May 10, 1959. She and her husband raised three beautiful daughters. Barbara was an avid bowler, loved to fish and snorkel at Coffin's Patch off of Key Colony Beach. She managed two clothing store boutiques and lived in the Florida Keys for 35 years. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Barbara is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald; three daughters, Sally Van Esselstine (Santa Cruz, CA), Dana Blakley & son-in-law Johnston Blakley (North Palm Beach, FL), and Melissa Bender (DeLand, FL); three grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will take place Aug. 5, 2015 at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL. Vaughn, Robert  
Robert Vaughn Robert Vaughn passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Bayshore Community Hospital after a lengthy struggle with heart and lung diseases. Robert was born July 15, 1940, in Washington, DC, to Dorothy Hodgdon Vaughn and James Bennett Vaughn. From the age of five he was raised in Brooklyn, NY, by his loving parents, Martin and Dorothy Stiansen. Joining the Navy Reserves at the age of 16, Bob was called to active duty in 1958 and served aboard the Destroyer Escort USS Roy O'Hale until 1960. In 1964 he graduated with a BA in Business Management from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD. There he met his wife, Marian Heide. They were married on June 5, 1965 at Canton Lutheran Church in Canton, SD. After living in New York, Chicago and St. Louis, they settled in Matawan, NJ in 1973. After a satisfying and interesting career in business (industrial sales), Bob retired in 2007. He was an avid reader, former runner/jogger, and enjoyed frequent visits to the health and fitness center. He loved his family and friends, and was an enthusiastic fan of the New York Giants and New York Mets, as well as any underdog. His quick sense of humor and hearty laugh were enjoyed by all who knew him. Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marian Heide Vaughn; their son, Christopher Martin Vaughn and his wife Michele of Cliffwood, NJ, and their daughter Heidi Lee Garand of Matawan, NJ, and Marcus of Freehold, NJ; three beautiful grandchildren: Christopher Robert Vaughn, Isabella Rose Vaughn and Taylor Elizabeth Garand; his brother, Martin Stiansen and his wife MaryAnn of Mt. Bethel, PA, and four sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 22, at 2pm at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, 95 Cambridge Drive, Aberdeen, NJ. Voorhees, George M. - Brick  
George M. Voorhees AGE: 50 • Brick George M. Voorhees, 50, of Brick, NJ, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Community Medical Center after a hard-fought battle with urothelial carcinoma. Born in Princeton on May 8, 1965, George worked in the security and life safety industry and was a member of the AFAA (Automatic Fire Alarm Association) and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association). He was most recently employed by Systems Sales Corp. in Wall, NJ, as their New Business Development Manager. Known for his direct and brutally honest nature, George's loyalty was immeasurable; if he had your back you were blessed and you knew it! Beneath his tough "Beast" exterior hid a soft and nurturing side that was most often shown to his children, nieces, and nephews (both human and furry). His work ethic and dedication to his family was remarkable. George will be forever remembered for so many things, but especially for his colorful way of speaking, impressive culinary talents and handyman skills, ability to recall vast random facts, and appreciation of all things technical and historical. Although he will be profoundly missed, memories of his strength, selflessness, and character will forever keep his spirit alive. Surviving are his beloved wife Allison; adored children Christian, Ethan, Carleigh, Makenna, along with his steadfast buddy Gunnar (see you at the Rainbow Bridge!); cherished parents Alfred and Jean Voorhees of Whiting; treasured sister Sandy Unglert of Hackensack; as well as other family members who shared his life. Additionally, loving in-laws Gary and Pat Applegate of Brick, to whom he was like a son; Bruce and Patty Applegate Griggs and children Kylie (George's goddaughter) and Kyra of Brick; Patrick and Jessica Applegate O'Neill and children Noelle and Joseph of Brick; and Laura Applegate and children Gabrielle and William of Brick. The family wishes to sincerely thank the wonderful and caring staff of 4B and Van Dyke Hospice at Community Medical Center, as well as George's oncologists, for their support and compassion throughout his illness. Cremation will be private. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, August 1, from 1-5PM at the Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Rt. 88 in Brick.
