Rita C. O'Neill AGE: 87 • Lanoka Harbor Rita Cecilia O'Neill, 87 of Ocean Gate/Lanoka Harbor passed away peacefully at 5:05 am Friday. Born Rita Cecilia Chalmers in Newark, NJ to Nathanial and Elizabeth (DeGroat) Chalmers on November 27, 1928, Rita spent a happy childhood in Newark. She graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1947 and went to work for Hahne's Department store. She moved to her beloved town of Ocean Gate in 1973 where she raised her family and became involved in various organizations including the Ladies' Civic Club, Ocean Gate Senior Citizens Club and the Democratic Club. She will be remembered as kind-hearted, loving and always smiling. She had a way of making people comfortable and welcomed. She will be missed by all who knew her. Rita was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bernard A. O'Neill, her daughter Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Jennings, her step-daughter Catherine Jane O'Neill of Hobart, IN and her step-son Calvert (Chip) O'Neill of Gary, IN. She is survived by her daughter Terri O'Neill of Ocean Gate, her son-in-law and daughter Jim and Peggi Law of Manchester, NJ and her daughter and son-in-law Bernadette O'Neill and Jason Newman. She is also survived by her nine loving grandchildren Christopher Jennings and wife Antoinette, Robert Jennings, Meredith O'Neill Muminovic and husband Semir, Liam Newman, Miles Newman, Katie Law, Shannon Law, Conor Law and James Law. Rita will also be missed by her great-grandson Isaac and four step-great grandchildren Efrain, Miguel, Colleen and Annabell as well as many, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and the family that is Ocean Gate. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from 2pm - 4pm & 7pm - 9pm at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ 08721. Funeral will begin 9:30am on Wednesday in the funeral home before leaving to celebrate a 10:30am Funeral Mass at Saint Barnabas Church in Bayville. Burial will follow to the Brig. General W.C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the nurses and staff of Spring Oak Assisted Living in Lanoka Harbor for the exceptional care, friendship and love they showed Rita over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made in Rita's name to either the Ocean Gate First Aid Squad, 107 E.
