Shurts, Donald - 78, Howell  
Donald Shurts AGE: 78 • Howell Donald Shurts, 78, of Howell, died on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, peacefully, at home, surrounded by loved ones. He was a captain in the Army National Guard where he served for 10 years before being honorably discharged. He owned and operated his business, Don Shurts Picture Frames and Moulding, for more than 40 years and never officially retired. He was a lover of animals. He would do anything for his pets and often took care of strays. He enjoyed the great variety of birds that gathered around the feeders which he placed outside his home and the deer would often wait patiently while he brought them apples. He is survived by his wife, Kazia; daughter, Maria; son, Eric; grandchildren, Audra and Rylee; and cat, Teddy Bear. Private services will be held.

Shuryn, Donald - 64, Bridgewater  
Donald Shuryn AGE: 64 • Bridgewater Donald Shuryn of Bridgewater, NJ passed away at Kindred Hospital Dover, NJ on Wednesday; August 26th, 2015 at the age of 64. He worked 32 years as an Industrial Technology teacher at Bridgewater Raritan High School retiring in 2005. He was a Master Automotive Technician. From 1985-1994 he was the evening adult supervisor at Bridgewater Raritan. He was also an adjunct professor at Kean University. He received his Bachelor's degree in 1973 and his Master's degree in 1980 both from Kean University. He was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Dunellen, NJ where he served as trustee for 22 years. Surviving are his wife Jean Balog Shuryn, son Donald and his wife Jamie of Lexington Park, MD and his daughter Kathleen and her husband Jack Barnes II of North Plainfield, NJ. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Noelle and Alana Shuryn and Luke Barnes. He is also survived by his brother Stephen, family and dear friends. Visitation will be on Friday; August 28th, from 4-8PM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen. There will be a funeral mass on Saturday; August 29th at 10AM at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Dunellen. Burial to follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Rose Marie Scaduto AGE: 91 • Formerly of Wall Rose Marie Scaduto, 91, formerly of Wall, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Imperial Health Care Center, Neptune. Mrs. Scaduto (nee LaRosa) was born and raised in Fort Lee. She later lived in North Arlington for many years before moving to Wall in 1973. She was a homemaker, and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Scaduto was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael Scaduto, as well as by her brother Nick LaRosa and her sister Carmella Bilotti. She is survived by her sons and their spouses, John and Debbie Scaduto, of Point Pleasant, and Michael and Ginny Scaduto, of Kendall Park. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, her brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Delores LaRosa, of Jackson, and her sister, Marie Caccavale, of Clifton. Visitation will take place at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Friday, August 28, 2015, from 4-8 P.M. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Denis Church, Manasquan, on Saturday, August 29th, at 9:30 A.M., followed by entombment at St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall. Schmitt, Virginia B. - Cochecton  
Virginia B. Schmitt AGE: 91 • Cochecton, NY Virginia B. Schmitt, 91, of Cochecton, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by her family on Monday, Aug. 24, 2015. Virginia was born on July 26, 1924 at Spring Lake Hospital in New Jersey. She attended Asbury Park High School. She was employed at Coast City Cabs for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Lawrence F. Schmitt. She was one of four children born to Mr. & Mrs. Leon McLaughlin. Virginia is survived by her brother, Joe McLaughlin. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Diane Powers & Kathrine Henderson and a grandson, JR Banta. Family was her love & joy. Virginia leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her seven children; Ginnie Latchaw, John & Connie Dundas, Bruce & Zuying Schmitt, Debi & Bob Ward, Yvonne Schaeffer, Michele & Steve Marston and Scott & Mary Schmitt. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren & 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins & a host of longtime friends. A celebration of Virginia's life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 at the Milanville Cemetery, Milanville, PA. Smith, Kathleen Joan - Whiting  
Kathleen Joan Smith AGE: 64 • Whiting Kathleen Joan Smith, 64, of Whiting died Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and resided in Barnegat for 24 years and in Hamilton Township before moving to Whiting two years ago. She was a licensed practical nurse before retirement. She was predeceased by her mother, Patricia Loftus in 1992, a brother, Donald Loftus in 1981, and her first husband, Melvin Louis Kinney in 1969. Surviving are her husband, Leonard J. Smith; two sons, Melvin Moulton and his wife Barbara and Daniel Moulton; a daughter, Kelly Oppen and her husband David; her father, Donald Loftus; four brothers, Kevin, Terry, Brendan, and Christopher; two sisters, Maureen and Tara; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Christina, Sean, and Michael; two stepsons, Daniel and Robert Smith; and two step granddaughters, Kimberly and Elizabeth. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Anna V. Sprague AGE: 87 • South Amboy Anna V. Sprague (nee Burkard) passed away on August 24 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel NJ. Anna was born November 11, 1927 in South Amboy and lived there all of her life. Before her retirement in 1992, she worked at Garden State Shipping, Keasbey, for 20 years. Anna loved to work in her garden, watch game shows, Judge Judy and had a very strong love and compassion for all animals her entire life. She had many pets throughout the years including dogs, cats, birds, a pig, a goat, a horse, ducks and she fed many wild animals. Anna was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Eugene Sprague in 2006, her brothers Frank, John and Joseph Burkard, her sister Madeline Bowerman and her parents, Frank and Victoria Burkard. She is survived by her only child, Ginny Pszolka of Keyport, her sisters, Marie Shingola of Perth Amboy, Estelle Pluskota of South Amboy, her brother, Thomas Burkard of South Amboy, her sister-in-law Elaine Burkard of Ocala, FL and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is Friday, August 28, from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Whiteley Funeral Home, 241 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy, NJ. Funeral service will be 10am on Saturday, August 29 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Please make a donation to the ASPCA or the South Amboy First Aid Squad in Anna's name.

Stansfield, Henry A. - Brick  
Henry A. Stansfield AGE: 79 • Brick Henry A. Stansfield, 79, of Brick, passed away on Monday, Aug. 24, 2015. Born on Dec. 1, 1935 in Paterson, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who lived most of his life in Haledon before relocating to Brick in 1996. Henry served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1955. He was an auto mechanic and the owner of Stansfield's Auto Electric in Haledon for 30 years. Henry enjoyed family time, gardening, cruise travel and trips to Atlantic City. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Clara, brother John and brother-in-law James Nash. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Judy (nee O'Neill); children, Vallerie Varick and her husband, David, Henry R. Stansfield and his wife, Anita, and Lisa Noury; siblings, Lorraine Nash and Richard Stansfield and his wife Linda, and sister-in-law Marge Stansfield; and grandchildren, Kelly Varick, Michael Stansfield, Lindsay Ireland and Ryan Varick. A mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Church of the Visitation, 755 Mantoloking Rd., Brick, followed by a repast for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Henry's favorite charity.

Schreffler, William L. - 66, Mifflinburg, Pa  
William L. Schreffler AGE: 66 • Mifflinburg, PA William Lee Schreffler, 66, of Mifflinburg, formerly of Whitehouse Station, NJ, entered into rest at 3:07 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at his residence. He was born on December 22, 1948 in Danville, the son of the late William John Schreffler and Louise C. (George) Schreffler. He was graduate of Hunterdon Central High School class of 1967, where he was in the concert orchestra, and participated in the inaugural parade for President Johnson on Jan. 20, 1965. He also received an award for automotive repair. Bill was drafted into the US Army on July 3, 1968 where he served as a power plant operator earning rank of SP4, he did a tour in Vietnam from December of 1968 to his honorable discharge on Feb. 8, 1970. He worked in the parts department of VW Company in Somerville and Flemington, NJ until 2002. His interests were assembling and flying helicopters, and repairing small gasoline engines. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles on back roads and through the forest, and loved his Siberian Husky dogs. Surviving are his step-mother, Esther E. Schreffler of Mifflinburg, one sister, Cheryl A. Shay of Mifflinburg, one nephew, Ryan P. Ashley Shay of Mifflinburg and their children, maternal Uncle, William Levan of Weikert, and numerous cousins. Services will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.
