Dacey, Leo J. - 77, Mountain Home, Ar  
Leo J. Dacey AGE: 77 • Mountain Home, AR Leo J. Dacey, 77, of Mountain Home, AR died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 at Hospice House in Mountain Home after a long battle with COPD. He was born in Newark, NJ on July 2, 1937. Leo lived for many years in Brielle, NJ and Stuart, FL, before moving to Mountain Home, AR in 2005. A 1955 graduate of Nutley High School in Nutley, NJ, Leo earned a degree in Economics from Lafayette College in Easton, PA in 1959 where he played on the football team, was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, and graduated cum laude. Leo was drafted into the US Army in March, 1960. After basic training at Fort Dix in Lakehurst, NJ, he served six months at Fort Gordon, GA and went on to serve four years in the New Jersey National Guard stationed out of Passaic, NJ, spending two weeks each year at Fort Drum, NY. Leo retired from Xerox early in life after a career in sales and went on to spend decades as a fishing captain running charters primarily out of Brielle, NJ and Port St. Lucie, FL. After many years as a deep sea fisherman, Leo spent his later years fly fishing for trout mostly in the pristine waterways of the Ozarks. Leo was a self-described "nomadic fisherman." Well traveled, Leo visited every US state and many national parks. He was a nature lover, an avid reader, a lifelong football fan, and a genuinely good and funny guy. Leo was predeceased by his parents, Leo C. Dacey and Estelle K. Dacey. He is survived by a sister, Kathleen M. Dacey of Brick, NJ; a brother, Dennis C. Dacey of Key West, FL; a nephew, L. Patrick Dacey of Wall, NJ; a niece, Meghan Walker of Oceanport, NJ, and four great-nieces and nephews. DeBenedetto, Maria Fay - 90, Oakhurst  
Maria Fay DeBenedetto AGE: 90 • Oakhurst Maria Fay DeBenedetto, 90, of Oakhurst, passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. She was born in Newark and lived in Middletown for many years before moving to Oakhurst 22 years ago to live with her son and daughter-in-law. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua in Red Bank. She is predeceased by her husband, Daniel DeBenedetto and her parents, Antonio and Annita Carratura. Maria is survived by her son, Daniel J. and his wife Jeanne G. DeBenedetto of Oakhurst; four grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Tim Torchia, Danielle, Jillian and Dustin and two great-grandchildren, Avery and Anthony. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27 at St. Anthony of Padua in Red Bank followed by an interment at Fair View Cemetery in Middletown. DeNardo Sr., Robert (Bobby) - Neptune  
Robert (Bobby) DeNardo Sr. On Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, our blessed Lord decided he needed another angel, so he opened up the gates of heaven, and brought home our beloved Robert (Bobby) DeNardo Sr. This kind, gentle, humble man who loved God and his family more than words can describe, fought through unimaginable battles and adversities, in which he demonstrated his relentless strength and will to live. We were all very blessed to have him 8 years longer, after defeating pancreatic cancer. Bob was a quiet man but had a humor that surprised many when they least expected it. A dedicated police officer for over 32 years, Bob rose through the ranks obtaining the position of Chief of Police of the Bradley Beach Police department in 1992. He was also a member of the Bradley Beach Fire Department, among many other civil organizations. Born on Feb. 24, 1953, he is survived by his loving family; His loving and adoring wife, Donna Siciliano DeNardo; his children, daughter, Abigail DeNardo-Taylor and husband Nick, son, Robert Jr. and wife Johanna, daughters, Erin, Courtney, Sara Miller, and son, Matthew Miller, his grandchildren, Brayden, Makena, and Kai Noa Taylor, and grandchildren, Sophia and Jake DeNardo; brothers, George DeNardo and wife Joann, Anthony DeNardo and wife Patricia, several nieces and nephews; his close friends, Jim, Walter, Bob and Louie; his former wife, Patricia Oliver and husband Paul, and finally his best friend and faithful companion, Duro. A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26 at the Ely Funeral Home. Mass and memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27 at Church of Ascension, 501 Brinley Ave., Bradley Beach. Desmelyk, Doris F. - 96, Forked River  
Doris F Desmelyk AGE: 96 • Forked River Doris F. Desmelyk (nee Smith) age 96 of Forked River, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin. She was an active member of the Lacey United Methodist Church for many years, and had been a volunteer at the Lacey Nursing Home. Mrs. Desmelyk took great pride in her home and garden, she loved to travel and always enjoyed her family and friends. Doris was predeceased by her son, Robert J. Desmelyk, parents Fred and Catherine Smith, brothers, Fred and Elmer and her sister Lorraine P. Wagner. She leaves behind her daughter Doris and her husband Bill Unruh of Florida, her son John and his wife Cindi, of Wisconsin and her son Joe of Forked River. She is also survived by her sister Genevieve Imbimbo of Florida, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Pastor Applegate and the Staff at SOCH for their tremendous help and support. A viewing will be held on Saturday December 27, 2014 from 10:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 noon at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 Rt. 9 North, Forked River, NJ 08731. Gaspar, Antonio "Tony" - 76, East Brunswick  
Antonio "Tony" Gaspar AGE: 76 • East Brunswick Antonio "Tony" Gaspar, 76, of East Brunswick, passed away on December 21, 2014 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was born in Perth Amboy, moved to Colonia in 1977 and resided the past 6 years in East Brunswick. Antonio was a self-employed accountant, a communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Perth Amboy, a member of the Fords VFW Post 6090 and the Portuguese Sporting Club in Perth Amboy. He was predeceased by his parents, Armindo and Maria (Nunes). Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Maria (Silva), his daughter, Jill Ann Gaspar-Higgins and her husband Mark of Arlington, Va., his grandchildren, Julian and Alexandra; also surviving are his brothers, Euzebio and John Gaspar, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 AM on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords. A 10 AM Service of Requiem will be held St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Perth Amboy. Cremation will be private. Viewing will be held Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Groskinsky, Edward J. - Fanwood  
Edward J. Groskinsky Fanwood Edward J. Groskinsky, a sixty-year resident of Fanwood, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014. A World War II veteran, he was born in Elizabeth in 1924 and was the last surviving sibling of the family of Charles and Elizabeth Groskinsky. After returning from military service in the U.S. Air Force in 1948, he married Margaret Macdonald. He graduated from Upsala College with a B.A. in Science and Education and was employed as a scientist and toxicologist by Bristol Myers in Hillside until his retirement in 1986. They settled in Fanwood, NJ where they lived for almost 60 years. He was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church of Scotch Plains and was treasurer of the Holy Name Society. He also volunteered at the First United Methodist Church where his late wife was a communicant prior to her passing. Together they organized and ran the Plainfield Free Meals Program for many years. He served on the Fanwood Historical Society and was an active and honorary member of the Fanwood Train Station Museum. Ed, who was known as Mr. G. by the kids in their neighborhood was loved by all of his neighbors, friends, relatives, and caregivers. He truly epitomized the biblical adage of "Love Thy Neighbor". Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Margaret "Peggy" Groskinsky, who died in 2007. The funeral will be from Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood on Saturday December 27th at 9AM followed by a funeral Mass at 10AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary R.C. Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-5PM at the funeral home. Hicks, David A. - 48, Cream Ridge  
David A. Hicks AGE: 48 • Cream Ridge David A. Hicks, 48, of Cream Ridge, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Born in Neptune, he grew up in New Egypt and was a longtime Cream Ridge resident. An Allentown High School graduate, David was employed by PSE&G and was a member of the Teamsters Local #35 and the IBEW. He was a talented man and was affectionately referred to as "Mr. Fix It". He was a loving father, husband, son and brother. Son of the late Larry Hicks, David is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Lori Hicks; his beloved daughter, Courtney Madison Hicks; his mother, Mary Lou Whiting; his mother-in-law, Linda Wright; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry and Meg Wright as well as his nephew and nieces, Sean, Natalie and Lauren Wright and aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28 at Peppler Funeral Home, 114 So. Main St., Allentown. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at the Allentown Presbyterian Church, 20 High St., Allentown. The Rev. Dr. Stephen Heinzel-Nelson will officiate. Hodel, Helen H. - 93, Bayville  
Helen H. Hodel AGE: 93 • Bayville Helen H. Hodel, 93 of Bayville, NJ passed away on Sunday December 21, 2014 at home. She was born and raised in Lehighton, PA moving to Bayville 13 years ago. Helen worked for several sewing factories, including Scotty's Clothing in Lehighton, PA as a Sewing Machine Operator for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Peter and Paul RC Church in Lehighton, PA where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and she also taught Sunday school. Helen loved gardening. She was predeceased by her sisters Ann, Rose, Betty and Emma. She is survived by her two brothers: Franklin in Lehighton, PA and Alfred of Waverly, NY, her loving nephew Tom Conarty and her loving niece Judy Conarty with whom she lived in Bayville as well as many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Monday December 29, 2014 for a Memorial Mass 10am at St. Peter and Paul RC 260 North 3rd Street Church, Lehighton, PA 18235. Gloria A. Judd AGE: 84 • Madison Park Gloria A. Lyons Judd, 84, of the Madison Park section of Old Bridge passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 23, 2014 at home with her family by her side. Born in Jersey City she lived in Old Bridge for the past 58 years. She was a member of St. Bernadette R.C. Church, Old Bridge, where she served as the organist for many years. For the past 14 years, her devoted husband Thomas took extraordinary care of her. Daughter of the late George and Theresa Schumm Lyons , she is also predeceased by her son, Thomas Andrew Judd in 1963. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Thomas P. Judd; her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Patrick Walsh of Sayreville, Eileen and Jim Roemer of Sayreville, Teresa Judd, and Pegeen and Joseph McGann of Lacey; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 27, 2014 at 10:15am from The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals" 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette's Church, Parlin. Interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-7pm.
