Alfred V. "Vern" Jensen

Alfred V. Jensen, "Vern", 90, a longtime resident of Neptune, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born on a small Danish island named Laesoe. As a youth, he lived in Brooklyn, NY. He returned to Denmark as a young man, and served as a radio operator in the Danish Navy during World War II
. He married his first wife, Engri, in 1947 and they immigrated to the United States in 1949. Vern worked at Dumont Television for some years. He then moved on to working as an electrical engineer for Bell Telephone Laboratories in Whippany and later becoming an MTS in Holmdel. He retired from BTL in the early 1990's.
Vern was an active volunteer as a computer instructor in Neptune's Senior Center for many years. He was also the treasurer and an active member of the New Jersey Model Boat Club. His other hobbies included ham radios, electronics, remote-controlled boats, gardening, raspberry jelly making, and he baked "the best" pumpernickel bread, real Danishes, and apple pies.
Vern was predeceased by his first wife, Engri (1986); their daughter, Lisa (1995); and by his second wife, Dorothy D. (1993). He is survived by his daughter, Linda Jensen of Toms River; and three grandsons, Erik and his wife Christine of PA, Bryan and his wife Jessica of NY, and Stephen Downs of PA; and his great-granddaughter, Olivia Downs of NY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
At Vern's request, his remains have been cremated. There will be a private scattering of his ashes at a future date convenient to his immediate family.
