Alma Rose Brown (née Guille) died on Friday, September 20, 2013, at the age of 94. She was surrounded by family. Alma was born in Westville, New Jersey, on April 22, 1919, one of 13 children. She was captain of the cheerleading squad at Haddon Heights High School, where she earned the nickname "Frenchy," and after graduation worked for RCA in Camden. In 1943, Alma took the train across the country to Vallejo, California, to marry Harry Brown, who attended the same high school before enlisting in the US Navy. She and Harry lived happily together, with their seven children, until Harry's death in 1977. Alma resided in Philadelphia, Chews Landing, Haddon Heights, and Runnemede before settling in the house she loved on East 20th Street in Ship Bottom, on Long Beach Island. Alma was a world traveler with a quick wit and an open mind, an outspoken, spirited storyteller who knew, and imparted, the importance of family, and humor, adventure, and the beach.

Alma is survived by her children, Patricia Alma Smith, Michael Kristop Brown, Timothy Harry Brown, Kathleen Brown Gilbert, Susan Nancy Kaszas, Jeffry Alfred Brown and Gregory Matthew Brown, as well as 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 6-8 pm at the Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 12th Street & Long Beach Blvd, Ship Bottom, NJ 08008. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 4700 Long Beach Blvd, Brant Beach, NJ 08008. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alliance for a Living Ocean or St. Francis Community Center, Brant Beach in Alma's memory.
