Andrew "Andy" Chencharik

Andrew "Andy" Chencharik, 91 years old, of Toms River, passed away on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at home with his loving family. Toms River was his home since 1988, but Down Neck, Newark, NJ is where he was born and raised. Andy had to quit school at 16 yrs old during The Depression to help support his family. He enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Core working on farms in the Midwest, before returning home to enlist in the Army
during World War II
. The brave soldier served our country in France, Belgium, and Africa and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. Andy married the love of his life, Terry, on June 30, 1951. He was a truck driver under the Teamsters Local 478 and 560 for 45 years and a member of the American Legion Howard F. Schwartz Post #408. Andy and Terry raised three sons, Andy, Mickey, and Bobby. In his retirement, Andy enjoyed making birdhouses and miniature replicas of homes. As the life of the party, Andy's most enjoyable moments were spent with family and friends. No pretty girl could walk away without a song and a dance; no man could leave without hearing the joke of the day.
Andy was predeceased by his father, Michael; his mother, Helen; his sisters, Sue, Anna, Pauline, Mary, and Helen, and his brothers, Michael, John, and George. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Terry; his sons, Andy and his wife, Rosemary, of Toms River, Mickey and his wife, Andrea, of Springfield, and Bob and his wife, Kathy, of Cranford. Andy is also survived by his grandchildren, Tracy, Andy, Dean, Kelly, Steven, Joe, and Bianca, and great-grandchild, Logan. Andy is also survived by his best friend and brother, Joe, of Bricktown, NJ.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 9:30 AM at St. Justin's RC Church. Please arrive at the funeral home at 8:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River. www.silvertonmemorial.com
