Anne Iris Cox
AGE: 89 • Manahawkin
Anne Iris Cox, of Manahawkin was born on September 4, 1923, in McCulloch County, Texas, the 5th of 9 children born to Samuel and Pearl Phillips. She was a beautiful towhead that everyone called "Dimples," until she grew into a beautiful young woman. During World War II the Army opened Camp Bowie to train troops for the war in her home town of Brownwood, Texas, and while working on the base PX, she met and fell in love with a handsome Corporal named James Joseph Cox. When he was ordered to another post they quickly married and she returned with Joe to his home town of Bayonne, New Jersey. She remained married to Joe for 57 years until his death in 2002. She was a fun loving woman who loved to joke and laugh and quickly became a much-loved member of the extended Cox family while she raised a family of her own. She was the proud and devoted mother of six children, James, Elizabeth, Richard, Donna, Mary Louise, and Patrick, and doting grandmother to eleven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She worked hard all her life, was devoted to her family, and still she always brightened every room she was in with her mischievous wit and ready laugh. She was loved by her children, her grandchildren, coworkers, and everyone who spent any time around her during her long career in the food business. Her love and devotion, her faith, her amazing strength and perseverance through hard times, and her constant laughter, even to the very end of a difficult illness, will be desperately missed by her family while at the same time they will always take inspiration from the incredible example of her life.
