B. John Beniush, 95, of Holiday City at Berkeley, Berkeley Twp., NJ passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Community Medical Center, Toms River.
Born in Newark, NJ, he lived in Rutherford, NJ before moving to Berkeley Twp. 30 years ago.
John was a US Army WWII
veteran, serving in Company 1 253rd Infantry.
Prior to the war, John worked at his parent's business, Mitchell's Butcher Shop, in Newark, NJ. He then enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and after being honorably discharged in 1945, John worked for the family's tavern in Newark, NJ for several years.
John then went on to work for W.J. Sloan Furniture Co. in Rutherford, NJ for 12 years.
He was a member of the VFW
Post 10185, Berkeley Twp., the Holiday City Berkeley Civic Club, the Fishing Club, the Homeowners Association, the Square Dance Club and the Golfing Club.
Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Krieg); his son John Beniush of Berkeley Twp; 3 grandchildren John Bennish, Michael Beniush and Kimberly Jordan; 6 great grandchildren Zachary & Sebastian Jordan, Nickolette, Vanessa, Brooke and Dylan Bennish.
The family will receive friends Thursday 2-4 & 7-9pm with a funeral service to be offered at 8pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River.
