Benjamin R. Britton, 80, of Morganville passed away on December 12, 2013 at his home in Morganville. Born in Carteret, he lived in Lawrence Harbor before moving to Morganville in 1966. He was a Pipefitter with Local 9 before retiring 18 years ago. Benjamin was a communicant of St. Gabriel's R. C. Church, Marlboro and a Navy Veteran serving as a Gunners Mate on board the USS Hornet (CVA-12) and the USS Block Island (CVE-106); during his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal and Navy Occupation Service Medal (Europe). Benjamin was also a member of the Holiday Beagle Club and a lifelong GIANTS Fan. Ben is predeceased by his parents Samuel and Mary Britton; foster parents Fred and Loretta Schultz and his sisters Helen, Maryann and Alice and brother Charles Wolk. Surviving are his wife Arlene Britton of 57 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian & Angela Britton; a daughter, Cheryl Britton; 2 Brothers and their wives, James & Alice Britton, and John & Diane Britton; his sister, Betty Jane Cothern, sister-in-law Hope Wolk; 2 Grandchildren, Anthony and Benjamin Schreiber. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 19, 2013 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Waitt Funeral Home 501 Route 79 Morganville, NJ 07751. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 20, 2013, at 10:00 AM at St. Gabriel's Historic Church, Route 520 Marlboro. Interment will follow at St. Gabriel's Cemetery.
