Captain Joseph F. Montecalvo

Joseph F. Montecalvo, of Manasquan, N.J., age 68, retired fire captain for the city of Hoboken, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, May 10th. He was born in Hoboken, where he was a firefighter for 22 years. In 1981, he moved his family to Manasquan. He was a compassionate man who dedicated his life to helping others. He was a member of the Professional Firefighters Association of NJ, the International Firefighters Association (IAFF), and the NJ State Firemen's Relief Association. He was also a member of both the Manasquan VFW and Elks Lodge #2534. He received the 200 Club Award for heroism as a firefighter. He also received the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded during the TET Offensive while serving as a Medical Specialist in the 15th Evacuation Hospital, 1st Infantry, for the US Army during the Vietnam War.

Joseph was predeceased by his mother, Cecelia (nee Scarpulla), his father Dominic, his brother George, and his brother in-law Robert Muh. He is survived by his devoted wife Dian, his son Keith and his wife Melissa, his daughter Amy Lyons and her husband Tim, and his grandchildren Max and Madison, his sister Marie Muh, and his sister Valerie Mina, and her husband Richard, and many loving and devoted nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 15th, from 2-4 and 7-9 at O'Brien's Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, NJ. Interment will be on Friday, May 16th, 11 AM, at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, North Hanover, N.J.
