Charles Albert Cowell III, of Brick, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Doylestown Hospital in Doylestown, PA. Mr. Cowell was a sales and business manager in the furniture industry until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Germany from 1955-1957. He was a communicant of St. Martha's R.C. Church in Point Pleasant and a member of the West Hudson Jaycees, the North Bergen-Guttenberg Kiwanis, Wayne Elks Lodge #2181, Point Pleasant Elks Lodge #1698 and the Old Guard of Point Pleasant. Born in Newark, Mr. Cowell grew up in Kearny and lived in North Arlington, Wayne, and Point Pleasant before moving to Brick 7 years ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Albert II and Agnes Cowell. Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Josephine Marie (Burreci) Cowell; son, Charles Albert Cowell IV and his wife Betsy of Verona; daughter, Cathy Makoid and her husband Joe of Doylestown, PA; sisters, Carolyn "Pat" Haller and her husband John of Monroe, Susan Easse and her husband Mickey of Cranford, and Karen Heitz and her husband Ernie of Wake Forest, NC. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, of whom he was extremely proud, Amanda Makoid, Joey Makoid and Elizabeth Cowell.

Visiting will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 at St. Martha's R.C. Church in Point Pleasant. Final interment will be held privately.
