Chief Arthur "Jerry" G. Brandau

Chief Arthur G. "Jerry" Brandau, 81, of Brielle, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014, in Miami, Florida. Chief Brandau was born in Point Pleasant. He was a lifelong resident of the Point Pleasant-Brielle area, and had also wintered in Key Largo, Florida for many years. After graduating from Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1951, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps
, and served in the Korean War
, before being discharged as a Sgt. He joined the Brielle Police Department in 1956, was promoted through the ranks, and was appointed Chief of Police in 1982. He served as Chief until his retirement in 1985. He was active in the Monmouth County, N.J. and International Chiefs of Police Associations. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge
#2534, and the V.F.W
. Post #1838, both in Manasquan. In addition to his police career, Chief Brandau operated his own business for many years, and after retiring, worked for Briggs Transportation.
Chief Brandau was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia (Fuer) in 2004, as well as by his mother, Lillian Brandau. He is survived by his daughters, Sandralee J. Williams of Hopedale, Massachusetts, and Debra Lynn Wise of Australia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stefani Williams, and Amanda and her husband Billy Kann, and a great-grandson, Cody Miller, all of Massachusetts. In addition, he is survived by other close relatives in New Jersey, Massachusetts and Florida, as well as many friends.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at St. Mary's By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Point Pleasant, followed by interment at St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall.
