Clarence "Bud" Aldrich III

Clarence "Bud" Aldrich III, 66, of Toms River, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at the Van Dyke Hospice at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Lakewood, he was a lifelong resident of Toms River. Bud had been a police officer
with the Beachwood Police Department and is a life member of PBA of Ocean County Chapter 171. He owned De Mott and Aldrich Trucking Co. Inc. of Toms River, and then worked for Dover Township Municipal Utilities Authority before his retirement. His career in public service included his life sponsorship in the Barnegat Bay Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and his service on the executive board of the Jersey Shore Council, Boy Scouts of America; receiving the Adolph Wooley Good Scout Award in 1995 the Silver Beaver Award in 1998. He was also a Board member for the Ocean County YMCA and was elected Board Member Emeritus last year. Bud served on the Dover Township Municipal Committee from 1994 through 2003, serving as Mayor in 1995, 1996, and 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Aldrich; his son, Chris Aldrich, Jackson; his daughters, Ann Dougherty, Lincroft, and Dawn Lorash and Amanda Demers, both of Montana. He is also survived by his father, Lt. Commander C.E. Aldrich, Jr. of Richford, Vt.; his brother, Larry of California; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial gathering will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Ocean County YMCA, 1088 West Whitty Road, Toms River, NJ 08753.
