Daniel J. Moore, 86, of Spring Lake Heights, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Newark, he had graduated from St. Benedict's Preparatory School, Newark. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy
serving on the USS Hancock, (CV 19). Daniel retired in 1989 after 30 years of service at Public Service Electric and Gas, Co. as a Working Inspector. He was the Financial Secretary of I.B.E.W. Local #2060, System Council U-2. Dan was an ardent Sports Fisherman, who spent many hours surf fishing and deep sea fishing off the Jersey Shore and the Florida Keys with friends. He was one of the first survivors of Oral Cancer- 40 years ago. His surgery was documented in the Journal of American Medical Association.
Daniel was the son of the late Daniel J. and Alice Burns Moore. He is survived by his 2 sisters, Alice M. Moore of Newark, and Regina M. Sherer of Goose Creek, SC; and his brother, Bernard J. Moore and his wife Angela R. Moore of Spring Lake Heights; his nieces and nephews, Robert F. Sherer, Regina S. Powell, Judith S. Waker, Daniel T. Sherer, Patricia M. Bauter, Michael A. Moore and Roberta M. Rice; and his grandnieces and grandnephews, James W. Powell, Regina L. Powell, Steven C. Waker, Meghan E. Sherer, Katie A. Sherer, Megan Bauter, Kyle Bauter, Sienna Rice, Kendall Rice, Matthew M. Moore, Christopher A. Moore, and Jessica M. Moore.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013 at St. Margaret's Church, Spring Lake. Burial will be in St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt.
