David Lee Harris


David Lee Harris was born Jan. 11, 1928 in Bainbridge, GA to Malachi and Agnes Harris. He departed this life on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, after a long illness. In 1942, the family relocated to Neptune and joined Mount Olive Holy Temple Church of God in Christ. He was educated in the Neptune school system. After graduating from Neptune High School, he enlisted in the Army where he served in the Korean War, receiving 2 Bronze Service Stars and a United Nations Service Medal. In 1952 after his honorable discharge from the service, he was employed by the Raritan Copper Works in Perth Amboy. He was later employed by the Asbury Park Housing Authority until his retirement.

He married Willa Mae Smith in 1953 and to this union were born two children, Frederick Douglas Harris, and Priscilla Hill.

David was predeceased by his wife, Willa Mae; his parents, Malachi and Agnes Harris; and 4 brothers. He leaves to mourn, his son, Frederick Douglas; daughter, Priscilla, son-in-law, Mitchell; 1 sister, Easter Mae Harris, all in Neptune; four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a host relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. Thursday, April 18 until the funeral service at noon at Mt. Olive Holy Temple Church of God and Christ, Neptune. Bishop Martin Luther Johnson will officiate. Interment will be held at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Childs Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements.
