Dorothy Margaret Norton passed away peacefully at her home in Spring Lake on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012. She was born on July 1, 1915 in Jersey City. Dorothy was the second child of Joseph and Teresa (Degnan) Norton of Jersey City. She resided for many years in Jersey City and Manasquan. In the early 1980s, she retired to Spring Lake, NJ. Educated at the College of St. Elizabeth and Fordham University, Dorothy began her career as an elementary school teacher and later as an educational psychologist, was an expert in student testing for the Jersey City School District.

Along with her parents Joseph and Teresa Norton, Dorothy is predeceased by her sister, Eileen Norton; brother, Joseph Norton, and brother-in-law, Arthur C. Guterl. Dorothy leaves behind to remember her, her sister, Mary T. Guterl of Sea Girt. She also leaves behind seven nieces and nephews, Arthur and Carol Guterl of Sea Girt, Mary and Harry Swain of Egg Harbor Twp., Joseph and Maryanne Guterl of Bridgewater, James and Gail of West Chester, PA, Elizabeth and Gerald Eldridge of Manasquan, Dorothy and Lee Bowen of Morganton, NC, Peter and Wendie Guterl of Bethesda, MD, and 12 great nieces and nephews and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 from 9:30am until 10:30am at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at St. Catharine's RC Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake. Burial will be on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 10:30am in Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.
