Pete McCloskey passed away on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at his home in Freehold Township, the result of a glioblastoma of the brain. He was eighty-one years old. Born in Philadelphia on July 18, 1932, he was a graduate of the Hill School (1950) and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point (1954). He also received a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan (1958).

Pete met his wife, Rochelle Russell in 1955 at Asbury Methodist Church in El Paso, Texas while stationed at Ft. Bliss. They married the following year.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Pete began a career in engineering at Union Carbide in Victoria, Texas. He eventually moved into pharmaceuticals, and was Vice President of Sales at Berlex Laboratories at the time of his retirement in 1997.

A football and wrestling enthusiast, Pete was also a golfer and model railroader. A resident of Freehold Township since 1968, much of his time was devoted to community service. He served on the school board, the hospital board, and in his retirement tutored children in the Amistad program. At the age of eighty, Pete was still active, heading the township's Zoning Board of Adjustment up until the time of his illness. He was a devoted and active member of Hope Lutheran Church since 1975 serving many years as coordinator for the Men's Fellowship Breakfast amongst other duties.

He is survived by his wife, Rochelle; his two children, Laurie and Michael, and his granddaughter, Daniela.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at Hope Lutheran Church of Freehold, 211 Elton-Adelphia Road. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to the . He would want your sympathies to go out to his wife, Rochelle, who has been afflicted with this disease.
