Eileen J. Dillon

Eileen Drexler Dillon, 87, passed on quietly at home in Island Heights on Saturday, April 19, 2014, after a long illness. Eileen, born in Hamilton Township, Mercer County, the daughter of John and Elysabeth Drexler, moved with her parents to Island Heights in the late 1940's. She attended Beaver College (now Arcadia University) and was voted Miss Ocean County in 1951 in the Miss New Jersey Pageant. She went on to graduate from Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Providence, Rhode Island. Returning home, her first job was as a secretary with Ciba Giegy Chemical in Toms River before becoming a secretary at Wing Headquarters at McGuire AFB. There she met her future husband Richard "Matt" Dillon, a pilot stationed there. They were married in 1959 and Eileen traveled with Matt to different assignments in Tennessee, South Carolina and Washington, DC. While in Washington, they adopted two children and became a complete family. In 1971, she returned to Island Heights with two young children while Matt was overseas. Later she became active as an officer in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Island Heights Yacht Club, the Island Heights First Aide Squad and a Life Member of the East Dover First Aide Squad as well as a volunteer at St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she and her family are parish members.
Eileen is survived by her husband Matt, together for 54 years of marriage; son Thomas and his wife Tara of Jacksonville, FL; daughter Geraldine Dillon of Barnegat, NJ; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Clarke of Island Heights and Carroll Wixson of Manchester, NJ.
Friends are invited to celebrate her life from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Thursday at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hooper Ave., Toms River. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph's Church, 685 Hooper Ave, Toms River, NJ 08753 in Eileen's memory would be appreciated..
