Elizabeth Anne Ferrigan Bruncati, 87, of Hazlet, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home. Born in Jersey City, NJ she was a graduate of Saint Aloysius High School and Fordham University. In January, 1950 she married Robert Bruncati, who predeceased her. They resided in Jersey City, moving to Hazlet in 1959, where they raised their 8 children. Elizabeth worked as a substitute teacher for many years in Raritan High School. A lifelong devout Catholic, Elizabeth was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at Saint Benedict Church, Holmdel, N.J. She was a tireless worker for social justice, volunteered as a friendly visitor through Monmouth County Social Services, and contributed generously to Bread for the World and many other charitable organizations. She was always a friend to the friendless, with a compassionate heart, words of encouragement, and a smile.
Surviving are her children and their spouses: Catherine Roe (Michael), of Mercerville, James Bruncati (Marijane), of Middletown, Michael Bruncati of Hazlet, Peter Bruncati (Susan), of Middletown, William Bruncati (Noelia), of Hazlet, Matthew Bruncati (Lisa), of Middletown, Anne Noble (Ronald), of Eatontown, and Christine Liaukus (Dain), of Verona; her sister, Eileen Pigut, of Clifton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie and James Fay, of Long Branch; and 15 grandchildren: Anne and James Bruncati, Elizabeth and Brian Roe, Matthew and Jill Bruncati, Rachel, Laura and Joseph Bruncati, Nicholas and Katie Bruncati, Hannah Noble, Violet, Ivy and Andrew Liaukus. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.
Visiting hours will be Friday, 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport. A funeral Mass will be offered Saturday at 11 AM at St. Benedict Church.
