AGE: 79 • Manchester Twp.

Emily R. Root, 79, of Manchester Twp. passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at Virtua Memorial - Mt Holly. Born in Trenton, she resided in Bordentown for many years before moving to Manchester Twp. She was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served during the Korean War. She was retired from N.J. Bell. Emily was a member of the American Legion - Post 31, Amvet Auxiliary in Seaside and Toms River. She was appointed to Treasury of Cemetery Counsel for the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery and chairperson of the Girl's State Oratorical sponsored by the American Legion.

She was the daughter of the late James P. Callahan and Huldah Nelson Callahan; wife of the late Stanley Jack Root, and mother of the late Jay Lee Root. She is survived by her son, Scott Root and wife Maria; her daughter, Kimberly Poss and husband James; her sister, Cathy Schmitt and husband Bob; her grandchildren, Erin, Jason, Morgan, Scott, Nikki, and Chase Root, Hunter Buckalew, Tim, Chris, Tanner, and Teegan Poss. She is also survived by a great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10am from the Kingston and Kemp Funeral Home, 260 White Horse Ave., Hamilton. Burial will follow in the Bordentown Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the donor's choice.
