Gene A. Drost, age 67 of Holiday City Carefree, Berkeley Twp. died Friday, September 13th. He was employed by General Motors, Linden for 33 years before retiring in 2001. Gene was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Marine Corp. and he retired as a Staff Sergeant from the New Jersey Army National Guard. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post #129, Toms River. Born in Perth Amboy he lived in Keansburg before moving to Holiday City Carefree.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years Carol Ann, his daughter Terry Rutkowski and her husband Robert F., Jr. of Manahawkin, his son Joel Drost and his wife Carrie of Groton, CT, 3 grandchildren Matthew Drost, Colin Rutkowski and Amanda Rutkowski, 3 sisters Linda Drost-Hernandez, Louanne Gates and Rita George, his brother Wilbert H. Drost, Jr. and his lifelong friend William M. Shave.

A memorial visitation will be held Friday, September 20th from 12-2 pm at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River. Full military honors will follow at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. Following at 6pm a gathering in celebration of his life will be held at the American Legion Post #129, 2025 Church Rd., Toms River.
