George A. Stocker

George Arthur Stocker, age 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at home. He was born on Jan. 2, 1931 in South Bound Brook, NJ and was a lifelong resident of Somerset County, living in Bridgewater for most of his life. He was the son of the late Herbert Raymond and Margaret Elizabeth Pauch Stocker. His beloved wife, Eleanore 'Norchi' H. Zarkiewicz Stocker passed away on Oct. 14, 2008. George will be known for the remarkable devotion and love he had for Norchi. Mr. Stocker was a US Navy
Veteran, serving during the Korean War
from 1948 - 1951. He was on board the USS Vulcan (AR5) and the USS LST (561). He held the rank of BT3. George worked for Union Carbide Corporation in Bound Brook, NJ for 42 years. He was a Class A Maintenance Mechanic and retired in 1993. In addition, he had a business boarding horses and baled hay during the summers. He was the man everyone went to when they needed something fixed or built. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed going to Atlantic City to go pier fishing. Mr. Stocker built and flew his own Ultralight aircraft and enjoyed flying and ballooning with friends. He enjoyed watching old movies, listening to music and reading. Most recently, he enjoyed visiting the Lyons VA Hospital each week to bring his favorite foods to share with everyone. George was always doing something to help other people. His most treasured times were spent with his friends, his adoring family and especially his grandchildren. He was a humble and patriotic gentleman. Memberships include the NRA, Somerset County Fish and Game Protective Association, Somerset County Fish and Game Association, Experimental Aircraft Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Herter and her husband John of Pittstown, NJ; one son, Colin Stocker and his wife Lois of Andreas, PA; 4 grandchildren, Andrew Herter of Seattle, WA, Kyle Herter of Pittstown, NJ, Makia Stocker of Andreas, PA and Jasper Stocker of Andreas, PA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 5 sisters, Dorothy Tiska, Frances Motyka, Anna LaFleur, Eva Stocker and Bertha Baxter.
A gathering of friends will be Friday, January 18, 2013 from 11am to 1pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main St., Lebanon, NJ 08833. Family and friends are welcome to share remembrances during the memorial service at 1pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lyons VA Hospital, 151 Knollcroft Road, Lyons, NJ 07939.
