George (Buzz) Philip Hall

AGE: 87 • Bay Head

George (Buzz) Philip Hall, 87, of Bay Head, peacefully passed from this life on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, surrounded by family members. Born in Cranford, he recently resided in Bay Head for the last 35 years. He was a beloved husband to "his gal Sal", Sarah Ann Cherry for the last 63 years, a devoted family man to his six children, a wonderful grandfather of eight, and great-grandfather of four.

George had an easygoing manner and loved to laugh. He was such a decent human being and led by example. He was caring, honest, and gentle. He led a life of quiet dignity and good deeds. George provided his family with a lifetime of great memories. At age 17, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in World War II as a radio operator on the USS Bunch (DE-694), a destroyer escort, in the North Atlantic. He enjoyed a long career in real estate, co-owner of Redling Hall, Pt. Pleasant, and an active member of the Pt. Pleasant Rotary Club. George had so many other talents and interests. He was extremely creative and produced many beautiful carvings and paintings throughout his life - objects treasured by those lucky enough to have been given one. He enjoyed corresponding with family and friends through endless written letters, which will be cherished by all in the years to come. He loved living on the Jersey Shore and had many fishing buddies and tennis partners. He was a devout Catholic and attended mass throughout his life. He supported many charities, and his favorite was Children's International. George enjoyed nothing more than dancing with the ladies at family functions, always to their exhaustion.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah (Sally) Hall; a daughter, Cherry Topping and son-in-law, Pete of Nazareth, PA; son, George Hall Jr. and daughter-in-law, Pam of Latham, NY; son, Tim Hall and longtime partner, Peg Davidson of Nantucket, MA; son, Mark Hall and longtime partner, Paul Richard of Tucson, AZ; son, Chris and daughter-in-law, Netta of Brick. George was predeceased by his parents, Marvin and Georgia Hall and son Tom Hall. He is survived by his brothers, Hank of DE and Bud of MA.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick. A liturgy in memoriam will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 751 Main Ave. (Route 35), Bay Head. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in memory of George to Good Will-Hinckley, P.O. Box 159, Hinckley, ME 04944, George's great-grandfather was orphaned and raised at Good Will-Hinckley School and returned to endow the school for children less fortunate, and donations made in George's name would continue that legacy today.
