Harold Lewis Arm, 90, of West Long Branch, died in his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 6, 2011. He was born in New York City, spent his childhood in Asbury Park and graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1937. Harold attended Monmouth Junior College and City College of New York, class of 1942. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force
for three years during World War II
. He worked at a Long Branch accounting firm for many years, became a partner in Arm, Jones and Panis and retired at age 75. Outside of his wife and his family, music was his passion. Harold was an accomplished pianist and played in the Pete Galatro Orchestra and for various organizations and countless theater groups. He was an active member of the Deal Jewish Community Center and was "instrumental" in the production, musical direction, set design and construction and countless other tasks for the JCC's Center Drama theater group. He sang with the Chorus of the Atlantic barbershop group. Harold was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, Post 125, the Long Branch Old Guard, the West Long Branch Leisure Club and Congregation Torah-El.
Harold was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Clara Arm and his brother, Donald. Harold is survived by his loving wife, Ellie, to whom he was married for 57 years, and his brother, Norman of Hudson, Florida. He has passed down his love of music to his daughters and their families: Lisa Arm and son-in-law Andrew Maynard of Needham, Massachusetts; Alison Frost and son-in-law Karl of Truxton, New York and Pamela Arm of Brooklyn, New York. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nathan Maynard, Josh and Jason Frost.
Funeral services will be at Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapel in Ocean, New Jersey on Tuesday, March 8. Please call the chapel for time and directions 732-493-4343.
