James C. McEachern was born July 14, 1952, in Dillon, South Carolina to the late Juanita Fulmore McEachern and Cleveland McEachern, of Fairmount, NC and Reins, NC, respectively. James descended into the Heavens on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013. He spent his formative years in Dillon, SC, Rochester, NY and Roosevelt, Long Island, NY, where he was a 1971 graduate of Roosevelt Junior-Senior High School. He later pursued college level courses at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft.

He was the proud recipient of a National Defense Service Medal and completed a 10-week Radio Teletype Operator course while serving in the U.S. Army, MHD-USAMEDDAC, Germany, from 1973-1975. Following an Honorable Discharge and proud service for his country, James was employed as an outstanding and meticulously organized Civilian Clerk at Fort Monmouth, NJ for 27 years, with assignments in Personnel, Illustration Files Division and COM-DIRECTORATE Division. An avid classical movie buff, James was an aficionado and frequent attendee of New York Broadway Theater and cinema, with a particular fondness and encyclopedic knowledge of the greatest, timeless, vintage movie offerings. In his spare time, James appreciated reading novels and listening to R & B and jazz music. As a globetrotter, he traveled to points of interest such as Bermuda, Niagara Falls, Cancun, Mexico, Houston, New Orleans, San Francisco, Mt. Rushmore, Key West, and Montgomery, among other parts of the continent. James was a 17-year dedicated member of "Game Night", a New Jersey-Delaware-Pennsylvania-Maryland based social organization whose objective is to establish and foster friendship, camaraderie and companionship for those of kindred spirits.

James was predeceased by his parents, Juanita Fulmore McEachern and Cleveland McEachern, North Carolina, and a sister, Joyce Beathea, Long Island, NY. He leaves to mourn his loving memory the following: Norman E. Robertson, caretaker of 34 years, Asbury Park; sister, Rose K. Nelson and husband Harold Nelson, Barnegat; nieces, Lolita Beathea, West Hempstead, Long Island, NY, and Deborah Nelson Crudup, Berkeley Township; nephews, Harold Morris Nelson Jr., Joliette, IL, and Kenneth Beathea, Pennsylvania; great-nieces, Brandi and Hailiegha Nelson, Barnegat, and Toyisha Beathea Rizo, Valley Stream, Long Island, NY; angelic sisters, Theresa E. James of Sugarland, TX, Debra Malveaux, Houston,TX, O. Beatrice Louissaint, Willingboro, Charlotte Davis, Willingboro, and Jean Day, Asbury Park; angelic nephew, Carlon D. Harrison, Sulphur, LA; angelic friends, Charles M. Richard, Asbury Park, and Ralph Lewis, Wilmington, DE, and a host of caring relatives and friends. James resided in Asbury Park from 1976 to his demise.

A memorial service honoring James' life will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Highway 138, Wall, followed by interment at 12 noon in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the @ www.diabetes.org/HolidayGiving in memory of James.
