John C. Coyne

AGE: 90 • Toms River

John C. Coyne, 90, of Toms River, passed away at home on Friday, May 10, 2013. He was born in Freehold and had lived in Neptune before moving to Toms River. John attended Freehold High School and upon graduation joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. When he returned, he married his beloved wife, Lucille in 1946 and owned and operated Coyne's Esso in Belmar. Later, he worked various auto sales jobs before working for the NJ State Division of Motor Vehicles. After 25 years, he and his wife retired to the mountains of western North Carolina before moving back to NJ several years ago. John enjoyed attending various Navy and high school reunions in his later years.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Lucille in 2011. He is survived by his children, Michael Coyne of New York City, NY, Susan Paul of Manchester, Robert Coyne and his wife Janet of Wall, Carol Dunak of Neptune City and Peter Coyne of Easton, PA; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.

A memorial gathering will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune. A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach, followed by the interment in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Spring Lake.
