Dr. John C. Freda

Dr. John C. Freda, 80, of Allentown, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at his home. Born in Princeton, he was a long time South Brunswick area resident prior to moving to Allentown ten years ago. He was a graduate of Lafayette College, where he was a member of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. He attended Temple Medical School, graduating in 1959 and was a member of the school's Alpha Kappa fraternity. Dr. Freda worked in Emergency Medicine at Princeton Medical Center and had his own family/general practices in Kendall Park and Jamesburg for many years.
While at Princeton Medical Center, Dr. Freda established the Department of Family Practice, on which he served as the department head for five years. He was a co-originator of the Emergency Medical Practice Panel and also served on the Hospital Executive Committee for three years. He was the Medical Director at Merwick Nursing and Rehab Center in Princeton; he developed the Medical Facility at Livingston College and established the Monroe Outreach Medical Practice and the South Brunswick Medical Center Outreach Hospital project. Dr. Freda was also very active in the South Brunswick community, serving on the Township Committee, the Planning Board and the Board of Variance. He was the designated physician for South Brunswick High School and St. Augustine's Elementary School. Over his forty years of medical practice he delivered about 500 babies and served countless number of patients.
Son of the late, Dominic and Marcellina Freda; he was predeceased by his brother, Lee Freda. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy A. Freda; four children, Jacqueline Freda-Schaffer and her husband Alan Schaffer, J. Jeffrey Freda and his wife Stephanie Akel Freda, Katherine Freda Rockhill and Judith Freda; eight grandchildren, Lara and Jeremy Schaffer, Giuliana and Cameron Freda, Paige Rockhill and Isabella, Costanza and Antonin Santarelli; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Addie Freda and Paul and Patricia Freda as well as several nieces, nephews and close friends.
A Memorial Service will be held 3pm on Saturday, October 26th at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 South Main Street, Allentown. The Rev. Brian P. Woodrow will officiate. Friends may call Saturday from 2pm until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Project C.U.R.E., 10377 E. Geddes Ave., Suite 200, Centennial, CO 80112.
