John J. Gaffney, 89, of Brick, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Meridian Nursing & Rehab, Brick. Born in Newark, he lived most of his life in Brick. He was employed as a foreman with Peter Pan Industries, Lakewood, for many years until retiring. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. John was a member of VFW Post 8867, Brick and was an avid country music fan. He had an outgoing and welcoming personality and was well liked by all he met.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Marie and his brothers, Ed, William and Leo Gaffney. John is survived by 3 sons, John Gaffney and his wife, Barbara of Orlando, FL, Guy Gaffney of NH and Robert Gaffney and his partner, Julie Gurney of Brick; a brother, George Gaffney of TN; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 at Laurelton Memorial Funeral Home, 109 Pier Ave., Brick. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth.
