John "Jack" Kane

Jack Kane, 76, of Whiting passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013. Born in Newark, Jack graduated from Bloomfield Technical High School and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. He raised his family in Edison and later moved to Whiting. He began his career at Western Electric in Kearny and worked at various companies within the Bell system retiring from Lucent Technologies.
Jack was very active in the community. He worked as a driver for CARES in Whiting and volunteered his services for Bingo at Crestwood Village VI. An avid golfer and horseshoe player Jack was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #4885 in Edison and was a volunteer who generously devoted his time to the good works of the VFW
, Forked River.
Jack was the beloved son of James A. and Dorothea (Kluin) Kane. He was predeceased by his wife Dottie and sister Peggy Katzgrau. He is survived by his son John J. Kane and his wife Beth of Belle Mead and his daughter June Sherwood and her husband Dave of Monroe. He is also survived by his brother James of St. Simons Island, Ga., sisters Barbara Messer of South Plainfield and Dorothea Kane of New Brunswick, his cherished and devoted grandchildren, John, Jessica , Melissa and Lauren and many nieces and nephews. "Pop" had a special connection with his grandchildren and just being in his presence brought smiles to their faces.
Jack was a friend to all and was always there for a joke, a bit of trivia, an occasional Karaoke number and especially a helping hand. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm at "The Family Owned" Carmona Bolen Home for Funerals 66 Lacey Road Whiting. A funeral mass with take place Friday at 10:45 am at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Jack's name to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Forked River Memorial Post #10118, 2652 Lacey Road, Forked River, N.J. 08731.
