Joseph "Joel" Alexander Forfar

Joseph "Joel" Alexander Forfar, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday evening, Feb. 6, 2014 surrounded by his two sons, daughter-in-law, grandson, and his loyal health care aide. He was born on October 29, 1943 to Joseph and Loretta Forfar. Joe grew up in Kearny, N.J. He graduated from Saint Cecilia High School in 1962. After high school he enlisted in the National Guard Teaneck, N.J. 104 Engineer Battalion. After his service he then attended Farleigh Dickinson University where he majored in Business/Insurance and began work for People Trust Company, Hackensack, N.J. for 8 years. He lived in Kearny, N.J. from 1943-1969. On October 19, 1969 he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Konopka, at Saint Cecilia Church, Kearny, N.J. They were happily married for over 40 years. They both enjoyed spending time together on the Jersey Shore and watching sunsets every night on their deck in the back of their home. Joe was employed for Ocean Federal Savings & Loan as an appraiser for 18 years. He was a member of the Society for Real Estate Appraisal. He then ventured independently by establishing his own real estate appraisal business. He also was the owner of Chicken King in Point Pleasant, N.J. Joe was an active parishioner of St. Martha's Church, Point Pleasant. He was very involved in his community, as a volunteer coach, when his two sons were young. He was a coach for the Point Pleasant Little League and Point Pleasant Recreation Basketball for over 8 years. As a young man he used to enjoy vacationing in Tuckerton Beach, N.J. where he was a water skiing instructor. Some of his hobbies included boating, fishing, crabbing, and restoring vintage cars. His favorite was carpentry/handyman work which showed in the beautiful family home that he and his father built in 1969. He was a trusted, honest, devoted, and faithful friend to all who knew him.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. and Loretta; and by his wife, Barbara, in 2011. Joe is survived by his two sons, Scott Forfar of Point Pleasant and Greg and wife Kimberly of Point Pleasant; 3 grandchildren; his brother, Ken and his wife Karen of Jacksonville, FL and their 2 children; and a brother-in-law, Walter and his wife Debbie of Toms River and their two sons.
The family will be greeting friends and relatives for a visitation on Sunday from 3-6 p.m at Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach. A Catholic Funeral Mass will follow on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Martha's Catholic Church followed by burial at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle, N.J.
