Joseph K. Smith, 90, of Brielle, formerly of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014. Born in NJ, he grew up in Avon. He raised his family in Neptune City. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Joseph Smith; wife, Kathryn; wife, Ardyn; and son, Michael J. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Kimberlee and Kenneth McKeon; son, Peter A. Smith. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Liscomb and many nieces and a nephew.

Joe served proudly in the United States Army during WWII in India. In 1946, he went to work for New Jersey Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1982 and moved to Florida with his second wife. He recently moved to Brielle, NJ.

He was very proud of being an Exempt Avon fireman. He played many sports in life and had the injuries to prove it. He was extremely fond of "good bread." Just loved it!! Loved to tell life stories and his children inherited that gift. He was a life member of the Elks 128, Knights of Columbus, and VFW. He was an usher at St. Elizabeth Church and his church in St. Petersburg.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Hwy. 138, Wall. In lieu of flowers, please bring warm memories…
