Dr. Leonard Ledwitz, 91, of Long Branch, passed away at his home on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013. Dr. Ledwitz was a lifelong resident of Long Branch. He was a graduate of Long Branch High School. He then went on to Temple University in Philadelphia and was awarded undergraduate degree. Dr. Ledwitz went on to study Dentistry at Temple and graduated with Doctor of Dental Science degree. Dr. Ledwitz did is Residency at Valhalla Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. He then joined the U.S. Coast Guard as an officer and served in the Greenland Patrol. He returned to Long Branch and opened his practice on Broadway, Dr. Ledwitz then purchased Dr. Shulman's practice on Westwood Avenue, where he practiced and his son continues the family practice for over 50 years. He was a member of Congregation Brothers of Israel, Long Branch, a member of the Long Branch Old Guard and the Long Branch Jewish War Veterans. Dr. Ledwitz was an avid golfer and tennis player. He loved his Wednesday evening poker game with his friends at the Admiralty in Monmouth Beach.

Dr. Ledwitz was predeceased by his wife, Diana Ledwitz in 1990; his daughter, Cindi R. Ledwitz in 2011; his son-in-law, David Valentino in 2009; and his sister, Janice Solomon. Surviving is his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Kenneth and Missy Ledwitz, Ocean Twp.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sari Valentino, Long Branch and Jackie and Steven Engel, Breckenridge, CO; his sister and brother-in-law, Ellie and Jerry Yankow, FL; his brother-in-law, Jules Solomon, Florida; six grandchildren, Tanya, Dara, Leah, Sophia, Nicky and Jason; his longtime companion, Janet Schneider.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St., Long Branch. Interment services will follow at Brothers of Israel Cemetery, West Long Branch. Contributions in memory of Dr. Ledwitz may be made to the Valentino Children's Education Fund, 747 Westwood Ave., Long Branch, NJ 07740.
