There she met and, in 1946, married Hartley Dellinger, who died in 2006. Margaret was an avid reader and kept a record since childhood of every book she read—a number totaling more than 5,650. She was a skilled bridge player, a lover of puzzles, and an avid fan of Indiana University
basketball. For many years, Margaret served as treasurer of the Indianapolis Church Women United, who honored her with its "Valiant Women" award.
