Mary-Louisa Hunt Parry

Mary-Louisa Hunt Parry, of Interlaken, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013. She was born in Christ's Hospital, Jersey City to Dr. Wilson G. Hunt and Louisa Klein Hunt on Jan. 13, 1932. Mary Lou graduated from the Bergen School, Jersey City, '49, and Mount Holyoke College, '53. She spent summers on the New Jersey shore and met Lynn Parry of Interlaken on the beach in Loch Arbor. They were married on Aug. 8, 1953 and happily married for 60 years. Mary Lou taught at the Haverford School in Pennsylvania until the arrival of the first of six children. In 1962, following a five year residency in Strafford, PA, Mary Lou and her family became a permanent fixture in the Borough of Interlaken.

With a commitment to public service, Mary Lou avidly supported Jersey Shore University Medical Center and was past president of the James F. Ackerman Federation. She was also a past president of the Ariel Club of Asbury Park, the Monmouth County Mount Holyoke Alumni Association, and the Monmouth County American Association of University Women. She was a member of the Deal Golf and Country Club, the St. Croix Yacht Club, the Daughters of American Revolution, and the Sewing Club. She actively supported The Salvation Army, Asbury Park Citadel. Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an accomplished entertainer with a flair for the elegant, but was just as comfortable with the spontaneous and impromptu occasions. Hers was truly a house of gracious living. She read Emily Post, but played by her own rules.

Throughout her life, Mary Lou surrounded herself with interesting characters and dedicated friends. She was an avid reader, a theatre and movie enthusiast, and a crossword aficionado. She was a world traveler, though she never made it to Antarctica.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lynn Ackerman Parry, MD; children, Lynn A. Parry Jr., Esquire and Laura Parry and their children, Samantha and Lynn A. Parry III, Hunt Parry, Esquire, and Victoria LaBella, Carol Parry Powell and Gregory Powell and their children, Paige and Wilson, John W.
