Mavis Bernard, 100, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 4, 2014, in Freehold. Mavis, a dedicated wife and mother, was born Jan. 5, 1914 in May Pen, Jamaica, West Indies and lived in Long Branch for 46 years.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Kay Bernard; son-in-law, Errol Bromfield; parents, Albert and Bertha Shaw, and five sisters. Mavis is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, Kenneth; her three sons, Lloyd and his wife Hyacinth, Smedmore and his wife Yvonne, and Alrick and his wife Veronica; her two daughters, Huldah and her husband Prince Donaldson and Paulette Bromfield; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Dr. Talbert Shaw, Herbert Shaw and Roy Shaw; and one sister, Pearl Bell.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 10 a.m. Monday, April 14 until her funeral service at 11 a.m. at Collinswood Park Seventh Day Adventist Church, 276 Shark River Road, Tinton Falls. The burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport.
