Michael Ekalo, Age 92, died November 16, 2012 in Hollywood Fla. A longtime resident of Perth Amboy. A member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption, member of church Chior Boyan, Perogie worker (Potato Peeler), past president of Ukrainian National Assoc. 155, Past Commander Ukrainian/American Vets, Member of American Legion Post 45. Served in WWII
, Cpl Army Air Force, Graduate of Army Air Forces Technical Training School as a Radio Operator And Mechanic. Served in E.T.O with 310th-311th, Ferry Command '8th Air Force. Battle Campaigns, Ardennes, Central Europe, N. France, Rhineland, Africa and Middle East. He was employed and retired from the General Cable Co. as s machine operator, Shift Department Supervisor, and Group Leader. An Active member of IBEW Local 41164 as a shop steward, Recording secretary and financial treasurer. Also worked for the Perth Amboy Parking Authority.
Predeceased are his loving wife Helen; son Michael C. Ekalo and daughter Judith E. Kelly. Survived by his son Kenneth Ekalo of Hollywood Fla.; his sister Catherine Szaroleta of Perth Amboy; five grandchildren, April Geldbach and family of Tyrone Ga, Stacey Schweiger and family of Round Rock Tx, Aaron Ekalo and family of Boulder Co, Rose Ekalo of Hollywood Fl. and Jeremy Ekalo of Oakland Ca.; great grandfather of eight. Friends may call Monday Nov 19, 2012 From 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00Pm at the Zylka Funeral Home, 513-515 State St. Perth Amboy NJ. Funeral services will will be held Tuesday Nov.20, 2012 at 9:30am in the Funeral Home and followed by a Mass at 10:00am in The Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery in Woodbridge. Parastas Service will be held at 7:30 Monday Evening. In lieu of flowers, donations my be made to the Red Cross to help with the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
