Noreen P McGillick
Forked River, New Jersey
Noreen Patricia McGillick, of Forked River, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday August 14, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving family. Noreen was predeceased by her father George Buckley, a brother, Kevin Buckley, and her sister, Susan Buckley. Noreen leaves behind to cherish her memory (and make her proud) three beautiful children; Christopher George (25) of Lavallette, Kevin William (22) and Shannon Elizabeth (19) both living at home. Noreen's husband, Dr. Thomas McGillick is now left in charge of being the "helicopter dad" as well as keeper of all the very special and loving memories of his best friend, soul mate, and wife.
Noreen also leaves behind her amazing mother, Cecelia Buckley of Westbury, NY, as well as three loving brothers, Donald Buckley, Robert Buckley, and Thomas Buckley, who have been so very supportive, caring and loving to Noreen that words cannot express. Noreen also leaves behind four sisters in law; Jasmine Shumanov, Lois Reinhardt, Gail Voigt and Fran McGillick; three brothers in law, Paul McGillick, Ron Reinhardt, and Michael Voigt. Noreen also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Noreen was born in Hempstead, NY and was raised in Westbury, NY. She was the youngest of six children and grew up in a little Levitt house that her mother still lives in today. Noreen attended St. Bridgid's Elementary School, Holy Trinity High School, and SUNY Farmingdale, obtaining her Associate's degree in business and then completing her education with a Bachelor's degree from C.W. Post College.
Noreen grew up loving horses and art. Her hobbies included cross stitching, crafts, concerts, reading, photography, and traveling with her family (including five trips to Ireland). Noreen loved Christmas (and holidays in general) and she loved setting up her Department 56 Christmas Village. Her village of over 100 buildings would take her a week to set up, but what a beautiful addition to the Christmas Holiday. Noreen also loved music, New York City and Broadway. But Noreen's true and special love was being a mom. She was terribly proud of each of her children, recognizing and celebrating their unique personalities and talents.
Noreen fought a very brave and courageous battle with cancer, never worrying about herself but about her family and, to use her words, "carrying on" when discussing family life without her. Noreen's final wishes were for memories of her life to give joy, not sorrow. Noreen stated in her final months that she would like people to remember her as an extraordinary mother, a caring and loving wife and someone who cared about others even if they had not treated her as well. Noreen stated she hopes her family and friends appreciated her as a friend who cared about them and loved them dearly.
Noreen and her husband Tom truly appreciate the love and support that friends and family displayed during her final months, inducing all of the food, which made dealing with life's challenges that much easier. We are so grateful that Noreen was able to come home in her final days to be with her family and rest in the comfort of her Christmas Villages. To everyone, THANK YOU.
