Ralph E. Newman, 85, of Spring Lake Heights passed away on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Ralph was a lifelong resident of Spring Lake Heights. Ralph was a member of Wall United Methodist Church, Spring Lake Heights for over 50 years. In his youth Ralph was a caddy at Spring Lake Golf Course. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Marine Corp. Ralph was a volunteer Deputy Conservation Officer for 33 years with the NJ Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife and also acted as one of the original hunter safety instructors. Ralph was one of the founders and past presidents of Algonquin Bowman's Club and the Monmouth Shore Points Motorcycle Club. He was a former member of the Haystack Hunt Club and a delegate to Monmouth County Federation of Sportsman Clubs. He was a member of Local 2250 which is the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for 61 years and received his 50 year membership pin in 2001.

Ralph was predeceased by his parents, Abram and Lelia (nee McKelvey) Newman and a brother, George Newman in 2010. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marguerite (nee Helfrich) Newman of Spring Lake Heights; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Brian Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; a son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Gina Newman of Wall, NJ. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Brendan Newman, Shannon Newman, Jeffrey Newman, Peter Johnson and his wife Nora, and Katrina Johnson, and a great-grandson, Connor Johnson; a sister-in-law, Jean Newman; a nephew, Timme Newman and a grandniece, Sarah all of West Windsor, NJ.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, February 15 from 4-8 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wall United Methodist Church, 2414 Old Mill Road, Spring Lake Heights, NJ 07762.
