Richard J. Viele, 75, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully after a courageous battles with cancer at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank on August 31, 2013. He was born on May 3, 1938 in Nyack, NY. Richard was a proud veteran of the U S Navy serving from 1957-1963. He retired from Exxon and Tosco Bayway Refinery Company in 2003 after 38 years of service. Richard loved to joke around and was blessed with a great sense of humor, and a sarcastic wit. He enjoyed buying and selling at the flea markets, walking the beaches at Sandy Hook, also swimming and Ice Skating. Richard will be immensely missed by his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Ruth Jones Viele and his grandparents. He is survived by his brothers Thomas Viele of Franklin, Robert Viele of Venice, FL, his sisters Ruth Ann Datemasch of Weaverville, NC, Jennifer Bridgeman of Toms River, and aunt Fortuna Maney of Southold, NY, his cousin Emmons (Steve) Stevens of Hazlet, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard was also survived by 3 very special children to whom he was known as Grampy George, Andrew and Darain Kutzman and Frankie Puma. George enjoyed attending Andrews hockey games.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3269 Highway 35 North in Hazlet, NJ 07730. In respect of Richards wishes he will be privately cremated.
