Robert Charles Pontecorvo, Sr., 81, of Brick, was born Jan. 17, 1933 in Brooklyn, N.Y and he found peace on Monday, March 17, 2014. Robert resided at Greenbriar II in Brick, NJ and Port St. Lucie, FL. He was a lifetime Jersey Shore resident. He graduated from Neptune High School in 1951 and proudly served in the U.S. Army with the European Occupation Forces. He graduated from Monmouth College with AA degree in 1958, a B.S. degree in 1960, and a Master degree in 1974. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War, serving as Quarter Master of Post 2639 in Neptune. He also was a member of the Elks Post #2658, Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was Commissioner on the Neptune Housing Authority for 10 years. Robert spent 35 years in education as a teacher in Howell Township for 6 years. He then was employed by the Neptune Board of Education for 29 yrs. He was the student activities director for 25 years, Summer School Coordinator for 15 years, Coordinator of the Neptune Adult Community School for 10 years. For almost 10 years, he worked at Sea Girt Militia Museum as a guide and taking oral histories. Robert enjoyed fishing, tennis, golf, and an occasional visit to Monmouth Race Park. Everyone that knew him, knows he was a really "NICE GUY". He was predeceased by his mother and father Elizabeth and Albert Pontecorvo and brothers Harold, Albert, and twin brother Nicholas. He leaves wife Esther Warner Pontecorvo after 52 years of marriage. sons, Robert C Pontecorvo, Jr. and wife Amy grandchildren Nicholas, Dominic and Anthony of Tega Cay, S.C. Bart Pontecorvo and wife Tracy and grandchildren Evan, Alex, and Alyssa of Cumming, Georgia; daughter Lora Lloyd and husband Ron and grandchildren Alexis, Ronald Jr., and Rebecca of Wall, NJ, and extended family Alan Dawson wife Mari, children Alec, Garrick, and Ellesse of Norfolk, Virginia. He also leaves many loyal friends, nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March, 21, 2014 at the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014. The interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Smile Train, P.O.
