Robert "Beecher" Hager

Robert "Beecher" Hager, 85, of Toms River, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Robert was born March 27, 1928 in Berrys Branch, W.Va., the ninth of nine children, where he spent his youth in the hills and the hollow which he referred to as "almost heaven". He joined the Army
in 1946 and served with 35th Battalion of the 25th Infantry Division, and received Army of Occupation and WWII
Victory Medal and later reenlisted and was assigned to the Army Signal School in Fort Monmouth. During that time, he met and married Gertrude Licata. Upon discharge, he became a Civil Servant for the United States Army, CECOM, Fort Monmouth, NJ, attaining the rank of GS-13, where he worked until his retirement.
Robert and Gertrude began their family in Hazlet, moved to Long Branch and then to Eatontown, where Robert also taught at the Electronic Institute of Eatontown and served on the Monmouth Regional School Board. The Hager Family moved to Toms River in 1979.
His wife, Gertrude predeceased him on Sept. 21, 2012. Robert is survived by his three children, Robert, Stephen, and Lori; five grandchildren, Steven, Danielle, Michelle, Lauren, Anthony; and 2 great-grandchildren, Elle and Vivian.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 26 at Carmona-Bolen Home For Funerals, 412 Main St., Toms River. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Toms River. Condolences can be sent to www.carmonabolenfh.com
