Robert Henry Weil
Robert Henry Weil, born on Aug. 1, 1917 in Elizabeth, died Friday, April 19, 2013, peacefully in his sleep at the home of his step-daughter, Carol McClanahan. He was the son of Ernest Weil and Elizabeth (MacGregar) Weil and brother of Lillian Cabarle of Cranford. Robert was married to Mary Elizabeth (Coyle) Weil on Sept. 14, 1940 and Elinor (Dale) Weil on June 29, 1974.
Robert was predeceased by Mary Elizabeth in 1974 and Elinor in 1988; also his infant daughter, Rose; his son, Joseph P. Weil; his grandson, Richard A. Weil; and his two sisters, Nancy Weil and Ernistine Fidele. Robert is survived by his children, Robert Edward Weil and his wife, Patricia of Anoka, MN, Gloria Sokol and her husband, Thomas of South Toms River, Arlene Decker of Bayville, Richard Weil of Toms River, Linda Weil, Joseph's wife of Brick, Diane Favale and her husband, Vincent of Bayville, Duane Weil Sr. and his wife, Barbara of Bayville, and Jacqueline Rose Middleton and her husband, Michael of Bayville. He is also survived by his step children, Carol McClanahan of Toms River, Linda Wright of AZ, Dennis Wall and Donald Wall; his 27 grandchildren, his 38 great-grandchildren, and his 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Robert was enlisted in the Army
, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a charter member of the Silverton Fire Department from its inception. Robert was the oldest volunteer fireman in Ocean County. He was involved in many community services throughout his lifetime. Robert was retired from Ciba Geigy and Forge Pond Golf Course. His greatest passions in life were the Silverton Fire Department, his family and friends, his love of model trains and ships, and his stamp collection. Robert had a wonderful sense of humor and a wonderful smile. He will greatly be missed by all who knew him. He was his mother's "favorite son."
Visiting for Robert will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 21 at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 22 at the funeral home, please arrive at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park. www.silver tonmemorial.com
