Robert Lane Sr., aka Banana Bob & Pop Pop, 71, of Tinton Falls, died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, after a 10 ½ year battle with renal cell cancer. He was born on Dec. 7, 1942 to Harry and Florence Lane in Neptune. He was employed as a truck driver by Charles P. Savoth & Sons, Neptune for 40 years, and Coutros Bros, Perth Amboy for 5 years. Robert retired in 2005.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Priscilla; his sons, Robert Jr. and his wife Dawn, Neptune, and Joseph, Tinton Falls; his daughter, Robin Knight and her husband Wesley, New Hampshire; the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Heather, Robert III, and Toni Marie; his sister, Elsie Clark and her husband Billy, of Florida; sisters-in-law, Bonnie, of Brick, and Jane, New York; nephews, Bill Clark and Matthew Lane; niece, Stephanie; special aunt, Elsie Morrison; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Harry, Thomas and Richard. He was a member of Shore Christian Center Church for 25 years, serving as a dedicated usher and deacon. He loved cooking, especially for the weekly family dinner. He also had a passion for gardening.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune.
